We have outlined below the steps for setting up your printer.
Bluetooth Printer Setup Guide
- Launch your OtterOne app and look for the printer icon which is located at the bottom of the app. Tap on the orange printer icon that looks like this:
- Tap +New Printer which is located on the top right corner
- Select the printer brand that corresponds with the printer that you have.
- Select the model of your printer. It is very important that you choose the correct printer model. You can identify the model of your printer by looking for a sticker on the back of your printer.
For a full list of supported printers, check out our list of supported printer models here. - Once you have selected your printer model, select Bluetooth as the connection type.
- There will be a series of 4 instructions that you need to follow first. Once you have done all 4 steps, tap on “Find my printer” and the tablet will then search for nearby Bluetooth printers. For best results, ensure no other nearby Bluetooth printers are switched on whilst connecting.
- Notes:
- The optimum operation distance between the Hubster tablet and the Bluetooth printer is <5m.
- Ensure that there is a clear line of sight between the printer and the tablet and that there are no obstructions between the two such as walls, microwaves, computers etc.
- If the tablet is laying on a metallic surface, that may cause a disruption to the Bluetooth connection.
- Notes:
- The tablet will now scan for any Bluetooth printers within range including your printer. Locate your printer on the list and tap on it to start the connection.
- Note: Having trouble locating your printer? Navigate over to the troubleshooting guide here.
- Once the connection is successful, you can either tap on “OK” to return to the home screen or “Send test print” to see if it’s really working. On the home screen, you’ll be able to see a list of all your connected printers and the connection status of each. Successfully connected printers will have a green “Connected” status on the right.
- Notes:
- If you’re receiving an error message connecting to the printer successfully, refer to the troubleshooting guide here.
- If this is your first time connecting your printer, it may take up to a minute to completely come online and show up as “Connected” on the home screen.
- Some printers may require a 4-digit PIN code or passcode of other sorts during the setup. If your printer is asking for a PIN code, type 0000 as the PIN.
- Notes:
- To be absolutely sure that your printer is connected successfully, choose any order from the Order History section of your Hubster tablet and select Reprint order. Your connection is complete if the order has been reprinted successfully.
- Note: If the ticket does not print, refer to the troubleshooting guide here.
Cloud Printer Setup Guide
The only cloud printer that Hubster’s tablet supports is the Epson TM-t88vi printer. Refer to this section for a full list of supported printer models.
Follow the steps below to setup your Epson cloud printer
- Ensure your printer is connected to a power source.
- Connect the printer to an ethernet port using an ethernet cable.
- Notes:
- Direct ethernet connection is the most reliable and reduces the risk of connectivity issues throughout the day.
- If you do not have an accessible ethernet port, connect the printer directly to the internet router instead.
- If your router is also out of reach, please contact our support team via live chat, or via email (hello@tryhubster.com.au) so that we may advise you accordingly.
- Notes:
- Load the paper roll into the printer.
- Notes:
- The loose end should be coming out of the bottom of the roll.
- Make sure that there is enough paper feeding through the lid.
- Close the lid until it clicks shut.
- Notes:
- Turn on the printer by using the switch in front. After a few minutes, it should print a receipt with an IP address with the words “DHCP: Enable”.
- Note: If your receipt is printing blank, it means that the paper roll has been inserted backwards. This can be easily resolved by removing the paper roll and flipping it the other way before inserting it into the printer again.
- Once you have received a printed receipt, refresh the page on your tablet and check to see if your printer is showing up as connected. You may also check your connection from the Integrations section of the Hubster app. A successfully connected printer will show a green light next to the printer icon with the status as “normal”.
If your printer doesn’t work after following the steps above, refer to this troubleshooting guide for some help.
WiFi Printer Setup Guide
If you are using a TP Link instead of an ethernet cable, follow the steps below:
- Ensure that your TP Link is connected to a power outlet and to your existing internet router using an ethernet cable that comes with the TP Link.
- With your smartphone or computer that has WiFi capabilities, search among the WiFi networks for the one titled “TP-Link” followed by a short serial number and connect to it. You will be prompted for a WiFi password which you can find on the back of your TP Link device or on a card in your TP Link package.
- Launch an internet browser using the device that you’ve just used to connect to the TP-Link network and type “TPLINKWIFI.NET” into the address bar.
- The browser should load a page that looks like a login page with fields for a username and password. Use the following credentials to login:
- Username: admin
- Password: admin
- Note: If you do not see a login page, it means that you have not connected to the TP-Link WiFi network.
- On the left menu bar, click on “Quick Setup” to get started, and then click “Next”.
- The next page gives you the option to change your password which you may proceed to do so. Otherwise, you can click “Next” to continue.
- Select “Range Extender” from the list that shows up and click “Next” again.
- A list of WiFi networks will load on the screen. Search for the WiFi network that your restaurant is using. Select it, and click “Connect”.
- Note: This is NOT the TP-Link network that you connected to with your smartphone or computer.
- Enter your restaurant’s WiFi password, click “Next” and finally click “Finish”.
- You will see a progress bar which will slowly loads to 100%. Once it has done that, you will see a webpage that tells you that you are no longer connected to the TP-Link network on your device.
- Look at your TP-Link device and you will see a green light. If the green light is steady (not flashing), detach the ethernet cable from the router and connect it to the back of the printer. The cable should now be connected from the printer into the TP-Link. You no longer need to be connected to your existing internet router as the TP-Link is now connected to your internet through WiFi.
Note: If you are using an old WiFi printer, you may experience some challenges setting it up. Refer to this troubleshooting guide for help.
