Printer Isn’t Working at All
The first step is to check if your printer is connected to the internet. Here’s how to do it:
- Turn off your printer (wait 10 secs for blue light to stop flashing) and turn it back on again.
- After 30 seconds, look for a receipt printout that has an IP address.
- Note: An IP address is a series of numbers separated by decimal points that acts like the temporary identifier of a machine when it’s connected to the internet. It usually looks something like this - XXX. XXX. XX. XXX
- The printout will have 4 lines:
- IP Address - If the IP address is 192.168.192.168 (notice how it repeats 192. 168. again) it means that the printer is NOT connected to the internet. The IP address to be a unique number that follows 192. 168. For example: 192.168.19.234 or 192.186.235.321
- Note: The IP address should always start with 192.168.
- SubnetMask
- Gateway
- DHCP
- Needs to state “Enabled”. This ensures it is connected to the printer queue/server.
WiFi Printer is Old and Unable to Connect
- If possible, use an ethernet cable to connect the printer directly to your main router as this will give you the most stable connection.
- If an ethernet cable is not possible, please ensure that every time you run through the TP link (Access point / Small white box) setup process that the TP link is reset.
- To do this, plug the TP Link into the router and plug in the power as well. Wait until the light is solid green.
- Then use a pin to press the red reset button and hold for 5-10 seconds. The TP Link light will flash once it is resetting. Wait until the green light is solid again.
- The TP link has been successfully reset! - Now leave it plugged in and run through the TP link connection steps using a laptop or smartphone Use this guide to help you.
